30mm War of the Austrian Succession Prussian Wartenberg Hussars (Spencer Smiths)

I am a sucker for a pretty uniform. I think white looks lovely when contrasted with other colours. That is why I chose to paint the Prussian Wartenberg Hussars.
The Kronoskaf web site is a nice resource to research 7YW regiment's uniforms and history. The history of a regiment often spans earlier and later periods. Here are the details of this regiment's history.
The first 5 squadrons of the regiment were raised in 1740 from 2 squadrons contributed by the 1st Hussar and from new recruits under the command of Colonel Friedrich Asmas von Bandemer.
In 1742, the regiment was completed up to 10 squadrons.
During the War of the Austrian Succession, soon after its creation in 1740, the regiment went into action. On August 1, it was ambushed at Kloster Leubus, suffering heavy casualties. In 1744, it served against the rebels in Upper and Lower Silesia. On November 27, it took part in a skirmish near Plesse where it attacked a force of Austrian cavalry, taking over 200 prisoners. In 1745, at the skirmish of Gross-Strehlitz, it defeated a superior Austrian cavalry force, taking almost 300 prisoners. On September 28 at the skirmish of Oderberg, it overthrew an enemy dragoon regiment and took a standard and over 100 prisoners.

War of the Austrian Succession Austrian IR 1 Kaiser

These are another unit of Spencer Smiths Spiffing 30mm War of the Austrian Succession figures. These are painted as Austrian IR No. 1 "Kaiser". I have just decided to add a pioneer to each unit. So I've more painting to do!

WAS Spencer Smith 30mm Prussian infantry regiment No. 1 Winterfeldt

These are some Spencer Smith miniatures 30mm War of the Austrian Succession figures painted as a battalion of Prussians. Spencer Smith figures are very basic. If you want detail you must paint it on. Painting these figures is a kind of art. It is much harder to paint them than Front Rank or Perry miniatures. But they have an old school grace to them.

The pictured unit is populated according to the "Charge!" rule set. Line infantry have 48 men, 1 mounted officer and four other command. I've done an extra officer because I like the variety. He can stand and watch if it comes to a game.

My first Spencer Smith figure: Szekely Hussar

I have painted my first Spencer Smith miniature. The figures have very little detail. You have to paint it on, which is the point of buying these simple figures. It is rather like taking an unattractive girlfriend out for an expensive meal. All she really rates is a nosebag and a measure of oats, but giving her the five star treatment makes the evening special. On the other hand, you could save your cash, spend it on the Spencer Smiths, and stay in for the evening.
This lad is from the Prussian Szekely Hussars. The uniform is good for the War of the Austrian Succession, the Silesian Wars and the Seven Years War. I've forgotten a few successions, but you get the drift. Here is is, presented in all his unfashionable shininess.
None of the lace, the flounders, the "teeth" on the Shabraque or the design on the Sabretache is molded on the figure. So it takes a deal of painting. I should touch up those flounders, but I was hasty to get this first man on the parade ground.
I've 58 kilos of these Spencer Smith figures to paint. So I'd better get a move on.
